Society for Bright Future Conducts Field Survey to Assess Flood Damage and Plan Rehabilitation

Natural disasters strike without warning, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair. The recent sudden flood in Nagrakata Block (PS Sulla Para), District Jalpaiguri, is one such tragic incident that deeply affected the lives of hundreds of families. The flood, caused by the overflow of the Diana River, inundated several villages, damaging homes, roads, and essential community infrastructure.

In response to this calamity, a dedicated team from the Society for Bright Future (SBF) immediately mobilized to assess the situation on the ground. Under the leadership of Dr. Merajuddin, Convenor, SBF, the team conducted a comprehensive field survey to evaluate the extent of damage, identify the immediate needs of the affected families, and chart out a plan for long-term rehabilitation.

Assessing the Ground Reality

Upon arrival, the SBF team found that the overflowing Diana River had submerged large areas, washing away agricultural land and livestock — the primary sources of livelihood for many residents. Dozens of homes were either completely destroyed or severely damaged. Families were seen taking shelter in temporary relief camps, struggling to secure clean drinking water, food, and basic medical supplies.

The field survey team interacted closely with local residents, panchayat leaders, and district authorities to collect firsthand information. Their findings highlighted urgent requirements such as safe drinking water, dry ration kits, clothes, hygiene materials, and temporary shelters. The survey also focused on identifying vulnerable groups — including children, women, and the elderly — who require special care and protection in the aftermath of the flood.

SBF’s Relief and Rehabilitation Vision

The Society for Bright Future has always believed in a proactive and people-centric approach to disaster management. As part of its ongoing mission, SBF aims to go beyond immediate relief and ensure sustainable rehabilitation of affected communities. Based on the findings of the Jalpaiguri survey, the organization is preparing a comprehensive plan that includes:

  • Providing essential relief materials to flood-affected families.
  • Setting up community-based support systems to restore basic livelihood activities.
  • Launching awareness drives on sanitation and disease prevention in flood-hit areas.
  • Coordinating with local administration and other NGOs for joint rehabilitation initiatives.

Dr. Merajuddin emphasized the importance of empathy and organized action in such times of crisis. “Our goal is not only to provide relief but also to stand by these families until they regain stability,” he said. “Every disaster teaches us the value of preparedness, solidarity, and human compassion.”

Standing in Solidarity

The flood in Nagrakata Block has once again reminded us how vulnerable rural communities remain to the forces of nature — and how vital it is for all of us to extend our support. SBF’s volunteers, guided by their commitment to serve humanity, continue to work tirelessly in disaster-prone regions across India, ensuring timely relief and sustainable recovery for those in need.

Together, through compassion, collaboration, and collective action, we can rebuild lives and restore hope. The Society for Bright Future remains steadfast in its mission to stand with disaster-affected families — today, tomorrow, and always.
