Flood Relief Update | Nagrakata Block, Jalpaiguri District

Oct 16, 2025

In response to the devastating flood that struck Nagrakata Block (PS Sulla Para) in Jalpaiguri District, the Society for Bright Future (SBF) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to disaster response and community support. The flood, triggered by the sudden overflow of the Diana River, brought severe destruction—displacing families, damaging homes, and disrupting livelihoods across the region.

To assess the ground realities and plan immediate relief measures, a dedicated team of SBF volunteers, led by Dr. Merajuddin (Convenor, SBF), conducted a comprehensive field survey in the affected areas. The objective was to understand the magnitude of the disaster, identify the most urgent needs of the affected families, and strategize both short-term relief and long-term rehabilitation initiatives.

During the survey, the team observed widespread damage to residential areas, agricultural lands, and basic infrastructure. Many families were found struggling to access clean drinking water, food, and medical aid. The situation was particularly dire for children and the elderly, who faced heightened risks due to displacement and inadequate shelter.

The SBF volunteers engaged closely with local residents, community leaders, and administrative bodies to gather accurate data on the number of affected families and the extent of damage. Their findings will play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s upcoming relief operations, which may include distribution of ration kits, medical assistance, clothing, and temporary shelter support.

Speaking about the ongoing relief efforts, Dr. Merajuddin emphasized the importance of timely intervention and collective action:

“Natural disasters like floods remind us of our shared humanity. Our goal is not only to provide immediate relief but also to help communities rebuild stronger, more resilient lives.”

The mission in Nagrakata is a continuation of SBF’s broader vision under Vision 2026, which focuses on disaster management, humanitarian aid, and sustainable recovery. Over the years, SBF has built a robust network of trained volunteers across India who respond promptly to emergencies—ensuring that no affected community feels abandoned in their time of need.

While the floodwaters have begun to recede, the road to recovery remains long. The affected families continue to face immense challenges in restoring normalcy. SBF is committed to standing in solidarity with these families and ensuring that relief efforts reach those who need them most.

As part of its next phase, SBF will mobilize resources, coordinate with local authorities, and initiate community-based rehabilitation activities—focusing on rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and enhancing disaster preparedness for the future.

Together, we can rebuild lives and restore hope for the people of Nagrakata. Every act of support counts in bringing relief and resilience to those who have lost so much.
