In alignment with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Society for Bright Future (SBF) launched an extensive Earthquake Awareness Drive across the Kolkata Zone on 13th October 2025. The program was part of SBF’s ongoing mission to create a disaster-resilient India through education, volunteerism, and community empowerment.
Recognizing that awareness and preparedness are the first lines of defense against natural disasters, SBF organized awareness sessions in ten different areas — Lalitagori, Birshibpur, Uluberia, Shyampur, Somruk, Jagacha, Kashmul, Kakdwip, and J.B. Pur. These locations were carefully selected to cover both urban and semi-rural regions, ensuring that information about earthquake preparedness reached a diverse segment of the population.
A committed team of 26 trained volunteers from SBF took the lead in conducting the sessions. Their efforts collectively reached over 600 beneficiaries, including students, teachers, and local residents. The programs were designed to be both educational and participatory, encouraging active engagement from all attendees.
Each session focused on a range of essential topics such as:
- Understanding earthquakes — causes, frequency, and potential impact on communities.
- Safety measures before, during, and after an earthquake to reduce injuries and fatalities.
- Evacuation drills demonstrating safe exit procedures from schools and public buildings.
- Basic first aid training to equip individuals with the knowledge to assist the injured during emergencies.
- School-based preparedness programs aimed at creating safety committees and student volunteers.
- Community response strategies that emphasize teamwork, leadership, and local coordination.

The sessions were made more impactful through practical demonstrations and mock drills, allowing participants to visualize real-life scenarios and understand the importance of quick, coordinated action. Volunteers also distributed informative leaflets and shared contact details of local emergency services, ensuring that participants had access to reliable information and resources.
One of the key highlights of the initiative was its emphasis on community participation. The programs encouraged students, teachers, and local citizens to take ownership of their community’s safety and act as first responders in times of crisis. Through dialogue and collaboration, the initiative helped instill a sense of shared responsibility—where every individual plays a vital role in protecting lives and reducing disaster risks.
The Earthquake Awareness Drive also reflected SBF’s larger vision under Vision 2026, which seeks to promote sustainable development, social welfare, and disaster preparedness across India. By connecting communities through awareness and action, SBF continues to strengthen the foundation of resilience and solidarity in times of adversity.
This campaign in the Kolkata Zone stands as a shining example of how collective effort and public education can transform vulnerability into preparedness. It reinforced the message that building a safer tomorrow is not just the task of institutions but a shared commitment of citizens, educators, volunteers, and organizations alike.
Society for Bright Future remains dedicated to empowering people with knowledge, encouraging teamwork, and nurturing a culture of safety and preparedness across every corner of the nation.
