On 11th August, 2025, the Society for Bright Future (SBF) Assam North – Dhubri Zone hosted a Traffic Rules Awareness Programme that aimed to raise community awareness about road safety and responsible driving behaviour, and subsequently reached everyone about both their role in trying to prevent accidents and save lives whether they are pedestrians or drivers.
Why is Road Safety Awareness Important?
Every year, road accidents kill thousands of people across India, and many of these accidents occur simply because people do not follow basic traffic rules; they are speeding, not wearing helmets, not wearing seatbelts, or misusing pedestrian facilities. SBF recognized that the start to reducing such incidents is to raise awareness and this is exactly what this programme aims to do by being functional at the grassroots level.
The Traffic Rules Awareness Programme had nothing to do with listening to instructions; it was about triggering conversations with communities. It addressed how even small and conscious actions such as stopping when the light is red, reducing speed when approaching a zebra crossing, putting on safety gear etc., can make a difference between another life lived and a life lost.
Unwavering Volunteers Leading the Charge
The event was a success due to the unwavering commitment of SBF volunteers. Among those present were Shohidur Islam, Ramij Abdullah, and other dedicated members of the SBF Dhubri team. They stood side-by-side with the public, answered questions, and demonstrated responsible behaviour on the road.
These volunteers did not just provide rules, but rather life experiences and examples which made everyone reflect on their road use habits. It could have been illustrating the hazards of mobile phone use while driving, or ensuring individuals wear their helmet for a simple short trip. Regardless of the message, it was clear that road safety starts with you.
Interactive Education Makes a Bigger Impact
The programme also provided opportunity for participants to partake in open discussion in order to share their opinions, ask questions, and challenge misunderstandings about traffic laws. While each participant knew it was a formal education program, the interactive nature made the discussion more engaging and allowed an effective rapport to be established with volunteers from the community.
Visual demonstrations and role-play activities drew attention from all participants. Volunteers showed correct crossing techniques for pedestrians, proper hand signals for cyclists, and proper seatbelt checking techniques for car passengers. These practical elements ensured that the audience not only understood the rules but also learned how to apply them in real life.
A Group Dedication for Safer Streets
One of the greatest moments in the day occurred at the end of the session when the participants made a collective pledge to abide by traffic rules and ask others to do the same. This commitment to shared responsibility was perfectly in line with SBF’s vision of fostering safer, more responsible communities.
The impact of the programme does not end with the event, it has ripple effects such that with every participant the message gets passed on to their family, friends, and neighbours.
What Next
SBF Assam North – Dhubri Zone plans to do many more awareness programmes around different areas and especially in schools, colleges, and community centres. It is through planting the seeds for a culture of road safety with people very young and reinforced as an adult, that the aim is to reduce the number of accidents and save lives.
In efforts like this, SBF is reaffirming its commitment to humanity—protecting lives is the greatest service to others.
