Digital Detox Awareness: Youth Re-Connect to Real Life in Darrang
In a world where we are unable to have a single moment without a screen in front of us, the Society for Bright Future (SBF), Darrang Zone offered a way for young people to remember that life is meant to be lived mindfully. SBF for this reason organized a thought-provoking session on “Digital Detox” on 6th August 2025 at Educare Academy, Dalgaon Syampur — focusing on especially youth, who are becoming increasingly surrounded by digital life.
Why Digital Detox?
From sun up to sundown, students today can be found glued to their screens – including smartphones, gaming devices, and social media platforms. Technology has many amazing advantages, but excessive and unmindful screen time is harming mental health, physical well-being, social skills, and academic engagement. Because of this serious potential harm to youth, SBF decided to take action to create awareness and support youth to re-establish balance in their lives.
Summary of the Programme
The session was attended by Principal Mozammel Hoque of Educare Academy, who provided relevant and realistic insights with the students. He described how uncontrolled technological use was creating anxiety, laziness, lack of focus and also contributing to a breakdown in family relationships.
The SBF Darrang team also discussed with the participants:
The science behind screen addiction and its unseen consequences
Easy-to-do small lifestyle change habits to build a better relationship with technology
The crucial need for outdoor play, reading, and being with other people
Consider digital boundaries such as “No Phone Zones” and “Device-Free Zones”
The students were engaged through interactive discussions, relatable anecdotes and actual evidence making the programme both informative and enjoyable.
Message to the Young
The underlying message of the programme was basic – but strong.
“Technology is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.”
Digital tools should allow us to learn, to create, and to connect – not distract us from, displace us from, and control us. A digital detox does not mean we abandon all technology forever. It is about creating healthy habits by:
- Using screens when absolutely necessary
- Utilising our time with family, friends, nature, and books
- Listening to our bodies and minds when they ask for rest, play, or calm
Summary
The Digital Detox Awareness Drive by SBF – Darrang Zone was a much-needed reminder for students to take back their attention and energy from the chaos of digital overload. Through the empowerment of youth to “disconnect from screens and reconnect with life” SBF continued to contribute to a more promising future for the younger generations in which technology is a supporter of their growth, rather than a detractor of their potential.
“Let’s help the coming generations become mindful users not mindless slaves of technology.”
