Digital Detox Awareness Campaign – A Step Towards Mindfulness in Darrang
At a time when phones have become almost a part of our body and senses, the Society for Bright Future (SBF) Darrang Zone made a powerful statement to remind us of the importance of disconnecting to reconnect. SBF Darrang organised a successful awareness programme on “Digital Detox” in Borhichowka on August 3rd, 2025 focused on students and their parents – two generations to whom digital consumption has been sweeping across.
The Case for Digital Detox
Gadget dependency is on the rise and our blurry relationship with screens has passed the threshold of habitual use, becoming actual abuse. While gadgets hold the capacity to deepen our learning, connectivity and access, we are often unaware of levels of excessive screen time that is deteriorating our mental security, attention span, relationships and productivity – too many facets of our lives. Regardless, SBF’s awareness campaign sought to re-establish bandwidth to discuss the true need for mindful and aware use of technology.
Expert Perspectives & Key Takeaways
The session also included some useful perspectives from medical and emergency management expert:
- Dr Azimuddin Ahmed (MO, Pathrighat PHC):
He reminded us about the physiologic and psychological impact of screen addiction – eye strain, sleep disruption, anxiety and depression and discussed “technology fasting,”including, screen time trackers, device-free areas in the home and getting outside.
- Matiur Rahman (DDRF, DDMA Darrang):
He described excessive gadget usage disconnected persons, especially young people, with their socio-political awareness and connections during emergencies and disasters. He stressed building mental resilience, social networks and physical readiness and helping young people lessen their reliance on all gadgets.
- Hanif Ali (Asst. Zonal Convener, SBF Darrang Zone):
He gave us a fun talk about the roles families and communities play in building healthier interaction with technology. He brought back home the message that we have an accountable role in creating a future for this generation that is tech-savvy, emotionally literate and socially conscious.
