Society for Bright Future (SBF) recently conducted a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in Bandia & Durduria villages, located in the disaster-prone Darrang district of Assam. This program aimed to emphasize the critical role of clean water and proper hygiene in sustaining human life. Clean water is an indispensable resource, and impure water can lead to severe health issues. In disaster-prone areas like the villages we adopted, accessing clean water and maintaining personal hygiene becomes a challenge during floods.
According to the findings of World Health Organization (WHO), microbiologically contaminated drinking water can act as a vehicle for diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio, leading to an estimated 505,000 diarrhea deaths annually.
With these alarming statistics in mind, SBF took proactive steps to empower and support these communities towards achieving a clean, green, safe, and sustainable way of life. Our initiative included a comprehensive WASH session where hundreds of villagers had the opportunity to learn essential techniques and gain knowledge about water and sanitation hygiene. Mr. Matiur Rahman, our Village Coordinator, worked alongside a government ASHA worker to conduct informative sessions on WASH issues, emphasizing the importance of clean water and proper hygiene practices. As part of our efforts, we also distributed Hygiene Kits to the villagers.
