This Annual Press Meet was called to discuss the recent disaster, as we know that India is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. The geographical features render it vulnerable to a number of natural hazards such as cyclone drought, floods, earthquakes, fire, landslides and avalanches.
Though, India has integrated administrative machinery for disaster management at National, State and District levels, however there is always a necessity of non-government organizations as a supplementary to the State relief efforts by initiating supportive actions.
According to Mr. Makbul Ahmad Anarwala, in the aftermath of the recent disaster, itโs important for us to come together as a community. We need to be vigilant and proactive in our disaster management efforts, working together to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals and families. Mr. Makbul Ahmad also stressed the need to be prepared and respond swiftly in times of crisis, saying, โ By working together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community and help ensure a brighter future for allโ.
During the meeting SBF National Coordinator Mr. Irfan Ahmad said that โThe role of a non-government organizations like Society for Bright future (SBF), becomes very important, for a long-term planning and preparedness for disaster mitigation, He also said that it is advisable for us to establish more organizations like thisโ. The SBF since its formation in a decade ago has set a benchmark in tackling aforesaid disastrous situations and help the vulnerable population.
The SBF with a strong team of trained volunteers at the National, State and District levels always come forward to save the humanity in natural and other hazards, like fire eruption, building collapse etc. In past few years, the SBF has respond over dozens of disasters including Assam Flood, Eastern Uttar Pradesh Flood, Kerala Flood, Jamnagar Flood, Konkan Maharashtra Flood and rescued more than 60000 people.
Last year alone, the SBF organised 8 Earthquake Awareness program in 6 different states among school and College students.
The Society for bright Future, which aims to provide road safety information for road users to encourage safer road user behaviour among current and prospective road users and reduce the number of people killed and injured on our roads every year, also organised 7 Traffic Awareness Programs in 4 Different state last year.
Under project Rahat (Blanket Distribution Programme in winter season) last year, the SBF have successfully organized 281 programs in 16 states in which 15114 blankets were distributed to the needy families.
In October 2022, heavy rainfall caused floods in Balarampur, in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Over 1300 villages were affected by this flood. Our volunteers distributed cooked food among 450 families, Ready to eat Food to over 300 families and distributed food packets among 250 families there. The SBF also organized medical relief camp where over 500 people were benefited.
To train its volunteers the SBF organized over a dozen workshops in several parts of India to prepare the volunteers to respond during any calamity viz manmade or natural in their areas and across the country.
Most recently, last month, the SBF also took the lead in the relief work in Joshimath, Uttarakhand, where disastrous landsides have developed cracks in scores of houses. The SBF delegation also held meetings with the Disaster Management Department of Uttarakhand State Government to extend help in relief and rescue operations.
